.NET Compact Framework 2.0
Most of the latest phones that run a Windows Mobile operating system will already have this installed. But if you get an error when you try to run the program, and it says something about the software being written for a different version or something, then chances are that you need to install this sucker.
It's free, of course, and is available from Microsoft: (keep reading, though)
Download .NET Compact Framework 2.0 from Microsoft (about 30 megabytes)
Installation: There should be instructions from Microsoft for this. The best way is to download the file, and use ActiveSync to install it.
What If I Don't Use ActiveSync?
In that case, you're running into a problem that I had. (I developed this on vacation and realized I didn't bring my ActiveSync cable, and I'm too cheap to buy another one.) There IS a way to upgrade to .NET CF 2.0 without an ActiveSync cable, but it does require a little bit of technical knowledge. I ended up following these instructions:
Install .Net Compact Framework without Activesync
I Have a Treo 700 with Windows...
Hey! You're like me! I ended up discovering that the 30-meg file that Microsoft offers is just a big install package that has a bunch of smaller install files inside.
In order to upgrade the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 for my Treo 700w, all I needed to do was download one of those smaller files onto my Treo and run it. For your convenience, you can download that smaller file directly from here and run it:
Download the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 File for the Treo (about 2 megabytes)
